The Association was founded for establishing a communication network among the direct selling companies, government, parliament, law enforcement institutions, academics, media press, consumers and direct selling companies. The association doesn't only emphasize the role of social charity and responsibility, but also devotes to leading the direct selling industry to develop smoothly and aggressively. The achievement done by the Association justifies its role and contribution.
1. Devotion to the research and promotion of related law governing the direct selling industry
Taiwan advanced into direct selling industry later than the USA and Japan. The Taiwan government didn't receive any related information of the direct selling industry. To help the nation's legislature institutions receive the latest information on the direct selling business development and law enactment in the world, the Association kept on collecting the updated information of the direct selling industry in most advanced countries, and also transferred domestic direct selling companies' suggestions to the nation's legislation institutions for their reference while making decision. The nation's first direct selling law was promulgated under the Association's promotion and efforts in 1992:"Supervisory Regulations Governing Multi-Level Sales", and "Fair Trade Law - which prohibits unfair business trading". The Association was also involved aggressively in the "Consumer Protection Law" of 1994, and "Healthy Food control Act of 1999", and some related law rectification of those law in the following years. The Association has also been dedicated to educating the Association's members and providing them latest information by hosting seminars and conferences. Helping the Association's members understand the principles and contents of each law can prevent unnecessary misunderstanding.
2. Establishing intercommunication between Taiwan and foreign direct selling companies and promoting the direct selling industry's professionalism
The Association doe sn't only create an environment favorable to the direct selling development and marketing, but also promotes the business experience share and exchange among the association's members, and devotes to enhancing the direct selling companies' professionalism and correct management philosophies. The Association also assists the members in understanding the business development trend in developed countries, and also participates in international direct selling conferences and invites foreign direct selling experts to visit Taiwan for lecturing. Promoting the information intercommunion among the staff of Taiwan and international can enhance the Association members' professional operation and management knowledge.
3. Protecting consumers' interests and enhancing life quality
The direct selling industry was synonymous with fraudulence because some dishonest direct selling companies cheated and fooled the social public and consumers by playing fraudulent tricks. The social public were under highly negative impression of the direct selling industry. To prevent the social public from misunderstanding the direct selling industry, the Association started to be in charge of promoting and educating the social public to understand the positive sides of the direct selling industry by taking measures such as launching "How to avoid a pyramid scheme", and issuing brochures and hosting seminars. All those actions did educate the social public how to tell the differences between honest direct selling companies and illegal pyramid organizations. The illegal pyramid organizations thus were unable to rip off innocent social public and were kicked out of the market. The honest and decent companies can gain necessary space for marketing. Meanwhile, the Association has successfully promoted the enactment of tax allowance articles for the consumer-oriented direct selling members. The promulgation of such law does address to protect the rights and interest of consumer-oriented direct selling companies.
4. Establishing management moral and self-regulation of the direct selling industry
The direct selling industry started to improve social public's impression towards the direct selling industry by initiating active self-regulation and self-discipline. That also has propelled the Association to stick to the motive of "Business Moral" since its foundation. By taking "WFDSA Codes of Conduct" into reference, the Association started to endorse "Ethic Codes For Distribution" on June 1st, 1996, which shall be obeyed by all of the Association's members and companies for executing self-discipline in the direct selling industry. The Association doesn't only establish "Ethic Codes" but also enacts related "Ethic Codes" for regulating the direct selling companies, and for promoting the articles and accepting the social public's complaints. The promulgation of the "Ethic Codes" does not only help the consumers establish trust in the direct selling industry, but also set a model for other business associations.
5. Enhancing direct selling research and educating the social public correct ideas
Searching direct selling prospects for the Association's membership companies is one of the major missions of the Association. By hos ting seminars in universities and colleges, the Association introduces the business opportunities of direct selling to the young generation. There have been over 10 itinerary speech and seminars hosted in universities and colleges across Taiwan until now. The young generation can thus be educated correct philosophies towards the direct selling industry. The Association also provides fund to professors and scholars who are interested in researching the direct selling industry and their research dissertations are published periodically for making the social public being positively aware of the true nature of the direct selling industry. The Association also spends considerable effort on communicating with press media and places advertisements sometimes. Continuous communication can help the social public understand the current development status of the direct selling industry and urges the press media develop the function of educating the social public to be correctly impressed by direct selling industry.
